Alexandra Cruz

Alexandra Cruz is an architect, and holds a MA in Scenography from Central St.Martins, College of Arts and Design (London, UK).


She collaborated in several set design projects for theatre and dance with the visual artist Daniel Blaufuks and the Architect João Mendes Ribeiro, with whom she has also developed projects in co-authorship before starting with her own set designs for the performances “Nós depois Telefonamos” and “Vagabundos de Nós” featured in some of the most important Portuguese theater venues.


She designed the exhibition “Serralves 1940”, presented at Casa de Serralves, Oporto and one installation for the exhibition “Universos Sensiveis” presented at CCB, Lisbon.


She is co-author of the project Paisagens Flutuantes (Floating Landscapes), part of the exhibition “Linha de Água” organized by Experimenta Design.


Between 2002 and 2005 she lectured the discipline “Concept, Techniques and Exposition Methods” of the 4th year of the Visual Design Degree at IADE – Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing.


She was Art Director in a number of commercials and short films, including the commercial for the famous portuguese beer brand Sagres, featuring the international film star Pierce Brosnan.


Through her professional experience she has also been involved in the organization and management of a number of exhibitions and events with a multidisciplinary scope, related mainly with architecture design and contemporary arts both for private and public institutions. As assistant coordinator of the Architecture and Design Department of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture (Instituto das Artes), Cruz was co-responsible for the production and organization of different projects, including the Official Portuguese Representation on the 9th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, the 6th International Architecture Biennial in São Paulo and a number of other projects and initiatives both in Portugal and abroad.


She moved to Oslo in August 2006 to be Assistant Curator of the Oslo Triennale 2007, the third in a series of international architecture triennials arranged by the National Association of Norwegian Architects (NAL) in collaboration with the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Norsk Form, OAF (Oslo Association of Architects) and Oslo Teknopol.


In 2009 she joined the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA), as Coordinator for International Relations.
